Migration: A step by step procedure
Before explaining our point of view, first some clarification about migration.
- We as Europeans cannot help everyone who is in need on this planet.
- An immigrant is not the same as an asylum seeker. An immigrant has the intention of staying here in Europe for the rest of his/her life. An asylum seeker comes here for as long as it takes for the situation, from which he/she is on the run, gets settled.
- It generally means that an immigrant makes the journey here when all paperwork is approved by the European Union and that that person does not need protection from his/her homeland.
- An asylum seeker comes here only with the goods he/she can carry, without approval and with a need for protection from the authorities in the homeland.
Controlling the number of immigrants is easy. It is, in some way, just disapproving their request if their added value to Europe is too small. An immigrant should at least speak one of the languages of the European Union and comply with the rules of immigration before arrival.
An asylum seeker who comes here with good reasons and intentions needs a humane policy and a warm welcome. To others, Europe will deny them access.
The humane policy is based on three major points.
- Avoid that people feel the urge to flee their home and undertake the dangerous journey to Europe. Help nations to develop and think of different ways of helping.
Helping with money might seem fast, it is also the least efficient way to help. In most cases, money creates more problems than it solves. Helping with know-how, materials and human effort is a better way to help. Do not give the hungry man grain, teach him how to grow grain. Encourage nations around the world to work together instead of fighting. Spread wealth by spreading employment and calling a halt to the robbery of their natural wealth by the governments of industrial powers. - The European Union will not rely on neighbouring countries to stop asylum seekers. As the European Union we must provide more "close to their home" options for refugees. This means that we should have screening centres around the world to help those who really need our help and stop those who make money on the lives of others. These screening centres will be the only way into Europe. Asylum seekers who came in illegally or by other routes in the European Union will be sent back at once and can never return to Europe. Refugees that were denied access to the European Union will not be able to refile their request.
- An accepted asylum seeker will be given a location to stay. They cannot choose their own location. The aim is to spread the asylum seekers over all the towns equally. Families can stay together when they indicated in the screening centre that they are family. An asylum seeker who travels alone cannot claim a family-reunion afterward. Minors who travelled alone and have no family anymore will not be denied access nor will they be sent to a refugee-camp, instead, they will be placed in foster families.
