Ecology: The clock is ticking

The European nation will take steps to change its ecological footprint and take steps in stopping climate change.

The time we could say: "it will last my time" is no more! Most of us will still be here when we reach the point of no return and since we are faster and faster reaching that point, we will need parallel paths to give ourselves a future.

A first path is the path of creating awareness to all people that we need to change our way of life. Decrease the amount of toxins that we release in our environment and create new products, to replace the pollutant ones.

This step also includes creating more space for forests and nature. Not only on land but also in the air and the sea. Other ways to help the environment is to change our way of producing our food, our way of fishing, our way of transportation. Currently we are creating products that are made with materials that will last forever, only to be used for a truly short time. Our first mobile phone will still be here when we are already long gone. Everything we do has an impact on the environment, and we must be aware of that.

A second path is that of innovation, technology, and governmental goodwill. The European government will take decisions to push companies into change and to create more ecological products, like vehicles that run on hydrogen or electricity or maybe a combination of both. Companies and universities will have to use their skills to create devices that can start extracting pollutants out of the air and out of the water. They will act on stopping glaciers and the pole ice from melting; get more water in dry places; create more energy from one wind turbine and get the same amount of energy 24/7. These initiatives will give us the time we need to walk the first path.

A third path is the path of restoring what has been destroyed. Instead of just stopping the melting of the glaciers, rebuilding them. Not only replanting forests, going further by recreating forests. Not only stopping the desertification but reclaiming land on the deserts. By going further, we will create a healthier world for our children and generations to come. Cleaner air and water will help us in fighting modern diseases, linked to pollution.  By restoring what is lost, we will stop immigration from countries suffering desertification or famine, caused by drought and other natural disasters.
